Why isn't anchoring (calibration) working right?

In a shared session, are your holograms not positioned as you expected them?

The best way to ensure coincident positioning of holograms in a shared session is by using the QR anchoring code. The code may be printed and posted near the area where the session will occur. It must be oriented vertically, not flat (horizontal).

If some session participants find their holograms placed far out of the expected space (including in walls or the floor!) may come as a result of the HoloLens not finding its "space" properly. This can be ameliorated by ensuring each headset has time to thoroughly scan the area before launching any apps. Care should be taken also to minimize other factors with can essentially confuse the headset. These are explained in the following Microsoft resource pages.

You may also find it helpful to clear the saved spaces from each headset and remap the current area where you're working. Headsets may confuse similar spaces (something common in clinical settings or teaching labs!) To clear saved spaces from a headset, navigate to Settings > Privacy > Environment and then select "Clear environment data."

Finally, if you've properly anchored and things go awry, re-calibrating may solve things. To do this, use the "Calibration" button on the toolbar in the app to return to the calibration/anchoring page and choose QR Code. Direct your gaze to the QR code, and you should see the marker pop up in its upper left corner. Then return your gaze to the main screen and tap "Finish calibration." The hologram should be repositioned properly.
